IFAN Flexible Metal Stainless Steel Corrugated Pipe

How the Corrugated Profile Manages Pipeline Movement

Its folded metal wall is engineered to take up small shifts that rigid pipe cannot handle. Thermal expansion, minor installation misalignment and low-frequency vibration all concentrate at equipment connections, which are common failure points for fixed metal runs. The repeating corrugations flex gently to compensate these movements instead of passing stress onto threads or welds. This makes it a practical buffer between static pipework and dynamic devices such as circulating pumps, water heaters and gas burners. Unlike rubber braided alternatives that rely on an elastomeric core, this all-metal construction holds steady across wider temperature swings.

Material Choices for Different Exposure Environments

We mainly form the tube body from 304 stainless steel, while 316L grades are available for harsher settings. Standard 304 works reliably for most indoor potable water and domestic gas hookups, resisting regular water-borne oxidation. 316L suits coastal sites, water treatment lines or industrial circuits where chloride levels accelerate surface rust. Each alloy variant keeps the same corrugated geometry, so installers follow identical bending rules when switching grades. IFAN marks each piece clearly to avoid wrong material selection in aggressive environments where premature pitting would lead to leaks.

Pressure and Temperature Boundaries for Safe Operation

Even though it bends easily, the metal structure carries defined operating limits. It is rated for continuous hot water service and intermittent heating cycles, but users must stay below its peak pressure and temperature thresholds. Over-bending, sharp twisting or pulling the assembly taut during fitting will fatigue the corrugations over repeated cycles. Contractors often confuse its flexibility with unlimited movement; excessive deflection creates microcracks that slowly spread through the wall. Good practice leaves slack in the run so the corrugations only absorb natural movement, rather than bearing steady tensile load.

Installation Rules That Extend Service Life

Cutting corners during fitting shortens its working life significantly. Installers should avoid tight clamps that crimp the corrugated section and never use it to pull misaligned pipes into position. Threaded end connections need proper hand tightening, without over-torquing that cracks the transition weld between bellows and fitting. A protective outer braid is an optional add-on, shielding the thin corrugated wall from scratches and abrasive contact on busy job sites. Once fitted, a quick pressure test confirms there are no hidden seal issues before the area is closed in.

Supply Flexibility for Plumbing Distributors and Installers

IFAN stocks standard lengths and common thread configurations ready for quick shipment. Custom lengths and end fittings can also be arranged for specialised project needs. It pairs well alongside our full range of plumbing and heating components, letting buyers consolidate orders for mixed-system builds. For residential retrofit teams and commercial HVAC contractors, this metal tube fills a narrow but essential role, solving alignment and vibration problems where neither plastic pipe nor rigid steel can perform reliably.
