How many years can PPR pipes last

Aug 05, 2021

PPR pipes are basically pressure-free after long-term durability according to standards of use.

Generally, the design life of cold and hot water supply pipes for civil buildings is long-term durability according to standards, and 100 years is required in some municipal projects. The service life of plastic pipes depends on the plastic material itself, and is closely related to the pipe working temperature, working pressure and pipe wall thickness. It should be said that within a reasonable temperature range and a certain working pressure, the service life of cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) pipes and random copolymer polypropylene (PPR) pipes with appropriate wall thicknesses can reach more than long-term durability according to standards.

Here, we must pay attention to three premises. According to the long-term performance test standard of plastic materials ISO/TR9080-1992, the conclusion derived from the theoretical point of view is: in the temperature range of 70℃, the service life of PEX and PPR pipes can be guaranteed for long-term durability according to standards. It can be seen from the German standard DIN16892/3 that under the condition of ensuring a 50-year service life, the continuous working temperature limit of PEX pipes is 80 ℃, and the continuous working temperature limit of PPR pipes is 70 ℃.
